Saving Bookmarks to the Bookmarks Bar

The term “bookmark this page” is a Chrome browser feature that allows you to create a shortcut link to a favorite website or one that you frequent often. When you click on the saved link, you will be directed to the site without having to enter the web address. What a timesaver!

The area directly below Chrome’s Omnibox (surrounded by red outline) is known as the Bookmark Bar. If you don’t see the Bookmark Bar, hit Control-Shift-B (Command-Shift-B on a Mac) to make it visible.

You can save bookmarks to the bar. I don’t know about you, but if I don’t see the bookmark, there’s a good chance I’ll forget about it. To return to a site, you can just click on the bookmark link and instantly be directed to that site.

To save a bookmark to the Bookmark Bar, click and hold the icon in the Omnibox (address bar) while dragging to the Bookmark Bar. Once your mouse pointer is on the Bookmark Bar, let go.

There are two ways to easily save room in your Bookmark Bar:

  1. Shorten or remove the name associated with the site. To do this, you will need to have a bookmark saved to the bookmark bar ⇒  Right-click/CONTROL-click on bookmark ⇒ Edit ⇒ Enter shorten name or completely remove text

  2. Create folders and save bookmarks in a folder. You can also create folders inside of folders! Right-click/CONTROL-click on bookmark ⇒ Add Folder ⇒ Click and drag bookmarks to folder

Below is an example of sub-folders… I’ve seen teachers create a Youtube folder. Inside of their Youtube folder, they will have folders for each lesson and save Youtube videos for each lesson in the relevant folder.
